Let’s Cut It Up! Again

The monthly Pals Blog Hop is overflowing with great inspiration for those of us in the card-making craft, as well as inspiration to those who may be thinking about beginning to dabble in papercrafting.  There are so many blogs to visit, I chose to keep my Pals Blog Hop Post shorter this month.  However, that didn’t stop me from creating a couple different versions of the same design layout to share with you.  I just decided to save those versions for another post.

I have to admit, it wasn’t too many years ago I looked forward to the Pals Blog Hop each month admiring all the beautiful and inspiring cards.  There was a period of about a year where I took my employer up on the opportunity to ride the metro transit bus to work.  While riding to and from work on the bus, I visited so many stamping blogs via my smartphone.  All the while thinking, I wish I could do that.  And, years later, here I am giving it a go!

Now, about those other versions.  This next easel card was created using paper from the Floral Boutique Designer Series Paper, in colors of Night of Navy and Whisper White.  I embellished the shaker with flowers from the Botanical Builders Framelits, and finished them off with the Rhinestone Basic Jewels.

One the inside, I used the “Thank You” sentiment from the Rose Wonder stamp set and cut the frame from the Rose Garden Thinlits.

I’ve enjoyed hearing from so many of you and thank you for taking time to leave your comments.  What do you think of this version?  Which one is your favorite version so far?  Leave me some feedback below and let me know.  Then, stay tuned, tomorrow I’ll share the third and final version of this card with you.

Cut It Up!

PalsBlogHop_2016

Welcome to the Pals Blog Hop for August 2016.  We are thankful you stopped by to take a look at our new 2016 Blog Hop monthly themes.  This month we are featuring projects using our favorite Stampin’ Up! cutting tools. There are so many wonderful punches, framelits and edgelits available that help make papercrafting more detailed and fun! We hope to provide you with lots of ideas and that you enjoy our creations.

You may just be starting the Blog Hop or may have come from the previous link from the Line-up on the Pals Blog Hop listing shown below.  The full lineup will help you move along from blog to blog so you may see all the projects.

We have so many great punches, thinlits, framelits, and edgelits it’s difficult to choose just one!  This card is a diagonal easel-style card on a base of Whisper White cardstock; a design inspired by a homemade card I received last week from my mother.

To create this card, I used paper from the Blooms & Bliss Designer Series Paper pack along with Rich Razzleberry cardstock.  Don’t let this card fool you!  It was quick and easy to make.  For the sentiment and shaker, I used the You’re So Sweet and Mini Treat Bag Thinlits.  For the butterfly embelishment, I used the Watercolor Wings stamp sets along with the Butterflies thinlits, using Rich Razzellberry, Sweet Sugarplum and Blushing Bride Classic Ink Pads.  For the shaker material I used Clear Mica Flakes, which I am pleased to share will be returning in the new Holiday catalog (a little sneak peek, for you).

When you open this card, it folds into an easel as shown in the picture below.

The Rich Razzleberry sentiment on the inside of the card and the outline around the sentiment are from the Rose Wonder stamp set and the frame was cut from the Rose Garden Thinlits.  If you don’t have the Rose Wonder stamp set, I encourage you to add it to your collection of card-making supplies; this set has many great sentiments in beautiful fonts.

Well, what do you think of today’s “Cut It Up!” card?  Please leave me some feedback.  If you liked this card, wait until you see the alternate versions I created using this same design to show off some of our other SU! Butterfly Inspiration (PPA312)

Growing up I spent many weekends with my Great Grandmother.  I have fond memories of baking homemade cookies while eating nearly half of the dough, enjoying her delicious homemade soup, and annually assembling goodie bags for Halloween beggers.

Among all these wonderful memories of my time spent with her, I also remember her love of butterflies and her beautiful butterfly brooch collection.  Inspired by her love of butterflies and the beautiful Blooms & Bliss Designer Series Paper, I created this card for the Pals Paper Arts challenge (PPA312).

StampinUp CAS All Occassion Card made with Blooms & Bliss Designer Series Paper (DSP), Layering Circles Thinlits, Fluttering TIEF and Elegant Butterfly Punch, designed by demo Lynn Tague. See more cards and gifts ideas at BeyondBeachesandBlessings.com #BeyondBeachesandBlessings #PPA312

To created this card I used paper from the Blooms & Bliss Designer Series Paper Pack along with Blushing Bride, Sweet Sugarplum and Rich Razzleberry cardstock.  I embossed the front of the card using the Fluttering Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.  The three circles were cut using the Layering Circles Framelits.  The butterfly was made using the Elegant Buterfly Punch and punching two butterflies and adhereing them together to make it 3-Dimensional, as though fluttering through the air.  Lastly, I wrapped some Linen Thread around the card and then tied off with a bow.  Very quick and simple card.

Remember to let me know what you think of this card by leaving a comment below.  Also, share a special memory of time spent with a grandparent while you were growing up.  I would love to hear your stories and learn more about you.  Please click on the Follow Me Now button to the right to subscibe to my blog.  You won’t want to miss another verson of my butterfly card which I’ll be sharing with you on Wednesday.  Thanks for stopping by!

Blessings,

Lynn

Paws-itively Thankful (PPA311)

This card was inspired by our recent adoption of Panda, our precious little Yorkie Poo.  The shelter from which we adopted her is the Furry Friends Refuge.  If you haven’t read about our special Panda, you can read her story by clicking here.

Having spent over two wonderful weeks with Panda so far, it’s time to send a handwritten “thank you” to the shelter.  So, using the Swirly Bird stamp set along with the Swirly Scribbles thinlits and the required colors for participation in this week’s Pals Paper Arts challenge (Smoky Slate, Marina Mist, and Pink Pirouette), I created this thank you card to send to the shelter.

StampinUp CAS Thank You Card made with Swirly Bird stamp set and Swirly Scribbles thinlits, designed by demo Lynn Tague. See more cards and gifts ideas at BeyondBeachesandBlessings.com #BeyondBeachesandBlessings #PPA311

I love this stamp set for its versatility; there are so many different things you can do with this stamp set and the coordinating thinlits set which are sold separately or as a bundle.  If you don’t have this bundle yet, I encourage you to purchase it and add it to your collection. And, purchasing as a bundle will save you 10%.  Now, back to my cards…

I love the required color combo because it includes shades of blue and pink which can be easily applied to a girl or a boy by just changing up the color of the cardstock used for the framing and banner.  You’ll see this concept illustrated in this photo with the two card variations together.  You’ll also notice I used a watercolor technique to color the watercolor paper using the Classic Stampin’ Ink Pad for each color.

New or expectant mothers could also use this card layout to create a thank you note for baby gifts using stamps or dies from the Something for Baby stamp set, the Baby’s First Framelits dies, or the Made with Love stamp set.

I like to add alittle “wow” to the inside of my cards, so I used created the paw prints in an upper and lower corner of the inside.  You’ll also notice that I used the splatter stamp from Swirly Birds and stamped off on my paper first, then onto the cardstock with the Smoky Slate.  I also stamped the “Thanks” sentiment in smokey slate on both cards.  The sentiment comes from the Perfectly Wrapped stamp set.  You’ll notice I also included a small amount of the Smoky Slate splatter on the front of the pink framed card.  Below is a picture of the inside of each card.

Now, one final idea…I am so thankful to have created two of these cards.  What you don’t know is, while I was preparing this post this evening I had to walk urgently away from it and rush off to get our Panda to the ER.  While out on her nightly walk before bedtime with my husband, Mark, she got stung and went into anaphylactic shock.  She went limp and was unresponsive almost immediately.

The staff of the Iowa Veterinary Specialities 24/7 Emergency Hospital and Dr. Gearhart were and are incredible.  They took her from Mark’s arms immediately upon entering the door and began administering care.  They found a stinger in the big pad on her right front foot.  When we left she was improving, but will be spending the night to be monitored and then undergo additional labs in the morning before getting to come home.  So, the second card will be provided to them for their wonderful care this evening.

Thank you for stopping by and blessings to you,

Lynn

Pandas Aren’t Always Bears!

It was a Monday evening just a few short weeks ago.  I was relaxing on the couch with my iPad in hand.  You know those nights; your body and mind just tell you “you need a chill night.”  The wide open spaces of the worldwide web eventually landed me on the website of Furry Friends Refuge, a local animal shelter not far from where we live.

Do you ever feel like you were lead to a certain place, at a certain time, for a reason unknown to you at the time?  This was one of those moments.  We’d not been actively looking for a new furry friend (and family member), but the topic had surfaced a few times during casual conversation over the past three years.

You see, on August 29, 2013, our furry poodle-person, Shadow, crossed over the Rainbow Bridge.  For almost 16 years, he was a treasured and adored member of our family, first joining us when he was just eight weeks old.  We’ve missed him dearly and knew somewhere down the road we might look at adding a new furry friend to the family.

Back to that particular Monday evening, it was getting late and time to be calling it a night.  Clicking on the link for adoptable dogs, I scrolled down the list.  At the very bottom of the list, I found Panda – a one and a half year old Yorkie Poo weighing about five pounds.  There was no picture.  On a typical worknight, I would be tucked in for the night.  I quickly sent an e-mail to inquire about her availability and to get more information on her.  Amazingly, I received a response back almost immediately.  After a few email exchanges, I made an appointment to go see her at the shelter the next evening after work.

Tuesday night, Andrea brought Panda out to meet me when I arrived.  I talked to Panda from across a desk, learning more about her from Andrea – she was definitely going to pose some challenges for us according to her surrender report and the shelter staff.  Love can overcome anything, right?

Wednesday night my husband, Mark, and I returned to see Panda and spend some time with her in the courtyard.  According to what I learned from the staff at the shelter, it was going to take several meetings to build trust with Panda, and for all of us to become comfortable with one another.  No problem, we can continue to visit her each evening for as long as the process takes.  On this night, Panda let us walk her around; she loves to go for walks!  She also let us pet her; more progress.  We also snapped a quick photo of her (below).  You’ll see she is a very shaggy Panda bear.

Yorkie Poo, Panda

On Thursday, we returned to again visit with our special friend.  She was excited to greet us when she spotted us in the courtyard.  Tonight our goal was to be able to pick her up (all five pounds of her), without her trying to bite or nip at us.  With more petting and more walking, she was willing to let us pick her up!  Mark even picked her up twice before our visit was over.  How wonderful that was and how excited we were!  The staff indicated she was making noticable improvements each day as we visited.  When we left the shelter, we knew we’d be bringing our sweet girl home soon, so off we went to pick up the essentials for her at our local PetSmart.  Her cute eyes and smile just make you melt!

Yorkie Poo, Panda, Furry Friend,

Friday, July 15, we attended a charity golf outing and then afterwards we made our nightly visit to the shelter.  Panda was ready to go home with us!  After just a few quick signatures on the adoption papers, off we drove bringing Panda to her new forever home, our home!  What a delight it was to watch her run around our fenced in back yard, and run all around our house checking out each and every room.  We could tell, she was going to love her new home.

Its been just over 2 weeks since we brought her home to join our family.  Much as been accomplished in these two weeks.  Most importantly, there has been a great deal of love around our home from us to her and from her to us.  She loves going outside and playing in the yard, rolling in the grass and playing with her little tennis ball.  She loves to go for walks and for car rides.  At night, she loves to snuggle in with us.  She is truely a delight and we’ve not experienced any of the long list of chalenges we had been told we might face.

You see, this just goes to prove that love can make a big difference in another’s life.

Blessings,

Lynn

Pals Paper Arts (PPA310) – For You

Not only is this my first official entry in the weekly Pals Paper Arts Challenge (PPA310), this card is also my very first shaker-style card.  With the specified layout for this week’s card, I was inspired to try a shaker card as the largest circle in the layout screamed, “Shaker.”  I also decided to keep it simple by using Stampin’ Up! patterned Designer Series Paper in the new In Color, Peakaboo Peach.

StampinUp CAS All Occassion Card made for PPA310 with InColor Designer Series Paper (DSP) and Layering Circles Die, designed by demo Lynn Tague. See more cards and gifts ideas at BeyondBeachesandBlessings.com #BeyondBeachesandBlessings

Below is the layout for PPA310.  I used the Layering Circles Framelits for the large circle or Shaker in the case of my card.  For the small circles, I used the Blossom Bunch Punch and some Rhinestone Basic Jewels for embellishment.  I also added a bow using the 1/8″ Silver Ribbon.

So, what do you think of my first PPA card?  Leave me some feedback and let me know what you like about my card.

Halloween Will Be Here Soon, Are Your Ready?

Challenged with the task of creating a card for a local Card Swap using our new wildly-popular Swirly Birds Stamp Set, I wanted to create a card that was unique and that I hadn’t seen among all the hundreds of samples available online.  Then, the idea stuck me.

My mom is ever working ahead in making her holiday cards for family and close friends.  Usually, she has her handmade Christmas cards ready to go sometime during the summer months.  I don’t think I’ve ever had my Christmas cards ready that early.  Have you?  Using her inspiration for working ahead of schedule, I chose Halloween for my card theme.  It won’t be long until we’ll be thinking about Halloween.  I am certain you can already find Halloween candy available in your local stores already.

Swirly Bird Halloween_BBB_1.0

For this card, I used the Swirly Bird Stamp Set and Swirly Scribbles Thinlits which come as a discounted Bundle in the new 2016-2017 SU! Catalog, along with Whisper White, Basic Black, and Pumpkin Pie cardstock.  For the die-cut leafy swirl in the center and the two bats I used Black Glimmer Paper (not available in the 2016-2017 SU! catalog).  I used the Elegant Butterfly Punch to create the two bats.  However, you can use Basic Black cardstock for these pieces then add Wink of Stella Glitter Brush in Clear to give them some shimmer, if you prefer some shimmer.  If you like some shimmer and have not tried the Wink of Stella Glitter Brush, I encourage you to try it; it looks great and adds that special touch to your cards.

What I like about this card design is, you can easily adapt it for use in making cards for other holidays (e.g. Christmas, Hanukkah, Valentine’s, St. Patrick’s Day, Independence Day, Easter) by just changing up the colors used and the embellishments.

Halloween parties are very popular these days among children and adults.  This card could easily be used as an invitation for a spooktacular Halloween party containing all the party details on the inside.  Speaking of the inside of the card, here is how I finished off the inside for you today, leaving space for a nice hand-written note.

It’s A Pattern Party!

PalsBlogHop_2016

Welcome to the Pals Blog Hop for July 2016. We are thankful you stopped by to take a look at our new 2016 Blog Hop monthly themes. This month we are featuring projects using our favorite Stampin’ Up! Designer Series Paper as well as coordinating embellishments. What we love about Stampin’ Up! is they make it so easy to mix and match colors. And, the amazing selection of embellishments provides a wonderful finished look to our projects. We hope to provide you with lots of ideas and that you enjoy our creations.

You may just be starting the Blog Hop or may have come from the previous link from the line-up on the Pals Blog Hop listing shown below. The full line-up will help you move along from blog to blog so you may see all the projects.

Pattern Party_BBB_1.1I am particularly fond of using the Stampin’ Up! Designer Series Paper Stacks (DSP) because they are so versatile.  These stacks are my “Go To” patterned papers for making cards.  For today’s Pals Blog Hop cards I used the new 2016-2018 In Color Designer Series Paper Stack and chose the colors Flirty Flamingo, Peekaboo Peach, and Sweet Sugarplum.  You’ll notice I used the same layout for each card, selecting a different print pattern and changed up the shape of the raised sentiment for each card.  I also like to use the Baker’s Twine when embellishing cards because of its versatility and ease of use.

The card pictured above features Flirty Flamingo DSP, the sentiment “for you” comes from the new Blooms & Wishes stamp set, and the little flower embellishments are from the new Perfectly Wrapped stamp set.

Pattern Party_BBB_1.0

This card features the Peekaboo Peach DSP and the sentiment “Best Wishes” also comes from the new Blooms & Wishes stamp set.  The raised sentiments on each of these cards were cut using the new Layering Squares and Layering Circles Framelits Dies (which I LOVE!).  The dots I used in the background of the Best Wishes sentiment above comes from the new Perfectly Wrapped stamp set.  I inked the stamp, then pressed onto scrap paper first then onto the Whisper White cardstock, so the Peekaboo Peach dots were lighter in color than the sentiment which was stamped directly from ink pad to cardstock.

Pattern Party_BBB_1.2

This final card uses the Sweet Sugarplum DSP and the raised sentiment “Happy Day” and small flower embellishments come from the new Perfectly Wrapped stamp set. You’ll also notice I covered the flap of each envelope with the matching DSP to coordinate the envelope with the card.  Have you enjoyed seeing a number of ways you can change up one single, simple card layout?  With the Stampin’ Up! Designer Series Paper Stacks it is so quick and easy to use one layout and make the same card with different color and pattern to change the way the card looks.  And, it’s easy to quickly make several cards at a time using this same technique.  This is why I enjoy working with our DSP Paper Stacks.  These paper stacks come in the In Colors, Brights, Neutrals, Regals and Subtles and should be added as a staple in your own paper collection.

Below you will see each card side-by-side for comparison purposes.  What do you think of these cards?  Which color is your favorite?  Which card is your favorite?  Leave a comment and let me know your feedback.  While you are here, please subscribe to my blog so you’ll receive an email each time I add a new post.  Click on the “Follow Me Now” button to the left to subscribe.  And, if you like these cards, check out my other cards by clicking here.
