Milestone Birthdays

Milestone birthdays are always a delight to celebrate and each celebration as unique as each of us are from one another.  This week we will help my sister celebrate her 50th Birthday.  Her birthday is on Wednesday, June 15, and we are celebrating with a big party for her on Saturday, June 18.  My sister loves pink and purple, so I chose to make her card in Melon Mambo and Whisper White.  I created the birthday card for her pictured below and have also made 120 table favors for the party.  The table favor is pictured with the card in the second picture.  I used an idea from Angie Juda of ChicnScratch to make the Mini Tote Box table favors.

The Birthday card is made using the following Stampin’ Up supplies: Melon Mambo and Whisper White cardstock, Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper, Brights Designer Series Paper (in Melon Mambo), 2-3/8″ Scallop Circle Punch (no longer available; replaced by the new Layering Circle Framelits), 2″ Circle Punch, 1-3/4″ Circle Punch, 1″ Circle Punch, Organza Ribbon, Seaside Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.  I love the new Seaside Textured Impressions Embossing Folder and have used in on several different cards and the Organza Ribbon is one of my favorites, too.

If you are wondering how I created the personalized sentiment, I created it is Microsoft Word using the WordArt tool.  I created two different sizes of this WordArt, one for use on favors and a slightly larger version used on greeting cards.

The table favors are filled with the most delicious meltaway chocolates which I ordered from Bakers Candies in Greenwood, Nebraska.  Staying with the color-theme for my sister’s party, I ordered pink (White Chocolate Strawberry), purple (Dark Chocolate Cherry) and silver (Milk Chocolate Caramel) and put one of each in each table favor.  I pretty much use these meltaways in all my table favors because they are so wonderful.   If you’ve not tried these before, I encourage you to order some and give them a try.

I hope you like the card idea I posted today.  Please post a comment and let me know what you think, and subscribe via email to my Beyond Beaches & Blessings blog so you don’t miss any of my posts.  Don’t forget to hop on over to my Beyond Beaches & Blessings Facebook page; be sure to ‘Like’ my page there so you don’t miss any of those posts.

My Passion for Cooking

Just as I have a passion for sports, I am equally as passionate about cooking.  I love to cook, collect delicious recipes and amazing cookbooks.  I love to crank my own homemade ice cream, so that tells you alittle about who I am in the kitchen.  Staying true to this philosopy, I have a wonderful recipe to share with you tonight.  However, I have a few comments to share with you before we get to the recipe.

Tonight was Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs and I am a huge hockey fan.  Did I mention my favorite hockey team is the Pittsburgh Penguins?  Yep, on to Game 6 (the suspense is killing me).  And so, we splurged for our pre-game celebration (dinner) and decided to go with Alaskan King Crab tonight in my Cheesy Crab & Corn Dip.  I recommend using your favorite type of crab meat in this recipe.  During the holiday season when we can get Jumbo King Crab Legs, we use the jumbos in this dip.  You could use imitiation crab, too.  To be honest, we have not used imitation crab yet, so I can’t honestly comment on the difference.

This dip is delicious and has some slight spice to it with the jalapenos but not overly spicey.  Feel free to include the tobasco sauce or not, and add extra garlic or not.  We each have our own likes and dislikes when it comes to taste.  Personally, I love garlic, so I add extra garlic.  However, I recognize not everyone loves garlic like we do, so the portion of garlic in the recipe is a reasonable amount.  The recipe calls for 3/4 pound of crab meat, so you’ll likely want to buy a pound or a little over a pound in order to get a full 3/4 pound of meat.  Here’s a glance at the dip, fresh out of the oven.

The recipe fills my Longaberger 9″ pie plate.  As an alternative, you could fill two pie plates half full and bake in two separate batches.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this post.  I plan to post some of my favorite recipes on occasion.  I’ll post a new recipe at least once a month.  Please leave a comment and let me know what you think.  I am interested in your thoughts.  If you try the recipe, return and let me know how you enjoyed it and what changes you made have made to the recipe.

Here is the recipe for my Cheesy Crab & Corn Dip.

You’re My Anchor

There are just those people in our lives that help keep us anchored.  Think about it for a moment.  Who is that person in your life?  A spouse?  A best friend?  Someone you work with or a member of your small group at Church?  The card I created this evening was designed with that person for me, in mind.  I hope you enjoy this card and that it sparks some ideas and thoughts of your own.  Perhaps you owe a “thank you” to that special someone who is your anchor.

What a treat to be able to design this card with products from the new 2016-2017 Stampin’ Up Catalog.  I’ll so more on that in another post.  Supplies used to make this card include:  Dapper Denim ink and cardstock, Whisper White cardstock, Seaside embossing folder, Organza ribbon, 2016-2018 In Color Designer Series Paper in Dapper Denim, and Stampin’ Dimensionals. ” You’re My Anchor” is the sentiment on the inside of the card.  The anchor and the sentiment are from the new Guy Greetings stamp set.

Are you ready for Father’s Day?

Father’s Day, June 19, is just around the corner.  Given this, I thought I would share a card I created for those special Fathers in our lives.  I am thrilled I actually get to see my Dad on Father’s Day this year.  We live so far apart this doesn’t happen as often as we’d like.  I am looking forward to giving him this homemade card.  I also made one for my incrediable husband, Mark, to send to his Father.  This card went together quickly.

In case you’re wondering, here are the supplies I used to create this card: Stampin’ Up! Chocolate Chip and Whisper White cardstock and Chocolate Chip ink pad; Kaisercrafts Lighthouse printed paper from their Sail Away Collection; Taylored Expressions Graphic Greetings-Dad stamp; Taylored Expressions Stitched Rectangle Stacklets; and 1/16″ foam adhesive to pop up the sentiment and the “I love you very much!” banner.
